The BMW Group has released some details about the 2020 Mini John Cooper Works (JCW) GP. Only 3,000 units of the high-performance Mini are expected to be built next year.
Spy images of the camouflaged car reveal an aggressive front end with a large air dam and large side vents. The rear gets a large spoiler and twin centre-mounted exhaust. Teaser images from the company however, reveal a different set of alloy wheels, GP lettering on the spoiler and differently finished exhaust tips.
The Mini JCW GP is rumoured to come with the same 2.0-litre petrol engine from the X2 M35i, developing over 296 BHP. It is claimed to be the fastest production Mini and will make use of lightweight materials. To handle the extra power, the suspension is also likely to be tweaked.
The last JCW model set an 8 minutes 23 seconds lap time at the Nurburgring-Nordschleife and the upcoming car could beat this and even target the current lap record for front wheel drive cars set by the Civic Type R (7:43.8 minutes).
