5th-gen Mercedes-Benz C-Class unveiled; launch on May 10

The fifth-gen C-Class will be offered in three variants – C 200, C 220d and C 300d.

Mercedes-Benz has showcased the fifth-generation C-Class in India ahead of its launch scheduled for May 10, 2022.

The new C-Class is larger than its predecessor. It has a 25 mm longer wheelbase which is said to have increased the cabin space. The car features a reworked front grille flanked by LED headlamp clusters that have also been reshaped, while the rear gets triangular tail lamps that sit flush into the bodywork.

The biggest change, however, has been made to the interiors. The new model gets a vertically oriented 11.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the centre and a floating digital instrument cluster. The all-new dashboard is neatly integrated into the centre console.

In India, the C-Class will be offered in three variants. The C 200 is powered by a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine producing 201 BHP @ 5,800-6,100 rpm and 300 Nm @ 1,800-4,000 rpm. The C 220d uses a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder diesel that puts out 197 BHP @ 3,600 rpm and 440 Nm @ 1,800-2,800 rpm, while the top-spec C 300d packs the same engine but in a higher state of tune. It makes 261 BHP @ 4,200 rpm and 550 Nm @ 1,800-2,200 rpm. All variants come with mild-hybrid tech and a 9-speed automatic transmission.
