Alexa, Fire Up the Lambo

When it comes to high-tech, supercar builders like Lamborghini usually reserve it for the greasy bits. Engine, suspension, active aerodynamics. This time, the team at Sant’Agata is bringing it inside, adding Amazon Alexa to the Huracan Evo.

The in-car control system is launching with the 2020 model and is on display now at the Consumer Electronics Show. Lamborghini says it’s the first automaker to offer Amazon Alexa in-car control, which will allow the driver to use voice commands for even more in-car functions.

Interior lighting, seat heating, and even the climate control will all be controlled using an Alexa voice integration. Lamborghini says this will let drivers keep their eyes on the road. In the future, it will likely also let them redesign cockpits with fewer physical controls, relaxing the constraints on designers and letting them really go wild.

“The Huracán EVO is an outstanding driver’s car, and connectivity enables our customers to focus on the driving, thus enhancing their Lamborghini experience,” said CEO Stefano Domenicali. “Lamborghini is a future shaper, and this is the first time an automaker will deliver in-cabin car control through Amazon Alexa to bring together car controls as well as smart commands and Alexa’s standard capabilities.”

Of course, the one thing Alexa won’t be able to control is the thing we most want to hear. That 640 hp, 5.2L naturally aspirated V10 will still be controlled by your right foot.
