Cadillac CT6 Drops 2.0L Turbo Engine, Now Only Available As AWD

Cadillac’s online configurator confirms the report.

As everyone should know by now, the future of Cadillac CT6 full-size luxury sedan beyond the year 2020 is still uncertain. However, a report from Cadillac Society opens a new Pandora’s box that’s relevant to this issue – the 2.0-Liter four-pot turbocharged variant has been dropped in Cadillac’s ordering tool.

Upon seeing the report, we immediately went to Cadillac’s online configurator and we can confirm that it is indeed true. The remaining variants that could be chosen online are the naturally-aspirated 3.6L V6 and the twin-turbocharged 3.0L V6. And of course, the detuned 500-horsepower 4.2L V8 mill, which isn’t present in the online configurator, along with the powerful CTS-V (photos below).

The only thing that’s lacking right now is the official announcement from Cadillac.

While this may appear as just one less variant in the CT6 range, the absence of the four-pot engine choice would mean that the most affordable CT6 sedan would start near the $60,000 range.

Moreover, the 2.0L engine choice is the only trim that comes with the rear-wheel-drive system. The remaining V6 and V8 variant choices are all running on all fours. So just in case you want a tail-happy CT6, that won’t be a possibility anymore. Well, at least for now.

Cadillac Society wasn’t able to get more information about the demise of the 2.0L engine option. And it seems like Cadillac is mum about it as well. However, the Cadillac unofficial news website offers a theory – GM is having a hard time keeping up with the internal demand for the four-pot mill, which is also offered in other GM vehicles. Taking the option out of the CT6 sedan could aid in that problem.

But of course, we could take this explanation with a grain of salt for now until Cadillac releases an official statement.
