Cadillac to be featured marque at La Jolla Concours

The La Jolla Concours will feature Cadillac as the honored marque this year when the weekend-long event parks on the peninsula north of San Diego April 12-14. That means you’ll see V16 Cadillacs from 1930-1940 and V12s from 1931 to 1937. If you’ve ever heard a V16 Cadillac cruise past – or rather, not heard one – you know how silently they operate. Of course, it’s a different story if you own one.

“They’re a pain the (gasitz),” said collector Aaron Weiss, who owns both Cadillac and Marmon V16-powered cars.

But for spectators they’re a joy.

“In 2018 the La Jolla Concours featured Lincoln, with one of the two surviving American luxury brand automobiles from 1917 to present,” the Concours announced. “Thus, it was only fitting to make 2019 Cadillac’s year. Cadillac is the oldest surviving brand in the United States, dating back to 1901. With the Great Gatsby era cars in this automotive family, in particular the Coachbuilt V-16 (1930-1940) and V-12 (1931-1937), the La Jolla Concours will be attracting attention from spectators of all ages. Cadillac’s long-standing history promises a stunning assortment of models for the 15th Annual La Jolla Concours d’Elegance.

In addition to Cadillac, La Jolla Concours will celebrate 100 years of Bentley and the 50th Anniversary of the Mach 1 Mustang. In total, attendees can expect to see 130 spectacular automobiles from around the world.

The Concours has three days of events. It starts with The Concours Social Club Friday night April 12, with a Tour d-Elegance Saturday and the Concours on Sunday April 14.  You can get into just the Concours for $55 but a high roller like you will want the $350 “Ultimate VIP Package," available through March 3, that gets you into everything. If you’re on a budget, there is something called the La Jolla Motor Car Classic at the Concours, which is free. The Classic “…will expand the show from the Ellen Browning Scripps Park into the La Jolla Village roadways displaying a variety of automobiles.”
