Ferrari and Mercedes Formula 1 teams are reportedly moving to the front of the vaccination line in Bahrain.
Last week, the Kingdom of Bahrain offered Formula 1’s entire traveling circus the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. The sport turned down the offer, F1 officials saying that it has “no plans to be vaccinated as a travelling group ahead of the already established rollout of vaccines through the health system in the U.K.”
La Gazzetta dello Sport, however, is reporting that Ferrari has in fact decided to take Bahrain up on its COVID-19 vaccine offer.
“This means that, strictly on a voluntary basis, the staff of the team that is already in Bahrain for the preseason test will have time to receive the double dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine,” the Italian newspaper report read. “Ferrari first contacted the health authorities of Emilia Romagna (in Italy) and in the absence of any objection a total of about 100 team members have already been vaccinated.”
Mercedes reportedly has also offered the same opportunity to its staff in Bahrain for the three-day test, which begins on Friday.
