What better day to spend a sunny Saturday than looking at forgotten old cars?

Not long to go now! With this year’s Hagerty Festival of the Unexceptional taking place on Saturday 30th July, tickets are now on sale. It’ll cost £20 per car to get in at Grimsthorpe Castle, so even in an MG F it’ll only be a tenner each. And for those travelling by Renault Espace (a distinct possibility at FOTU) then it’s not much more than the price of a coffee for each passenger – bargain.
As with the previous seven Festivals, a Concours de l’Ordinaire will also be held for cars, LCVs and bikes built between 1967 and 1997; entrants can submit their details here. All attendees can look forward to having Mike Brewer and Steve Cropley also there for the weekend, as well as improved facilities and catering after feedback from previous years.
Hagerty’s MD Mark Roper said: Mark Roper, Managing Director of Hagerty International, said “Tickets for Festival of the Unexceptional always sell out fast, and I urge showgoers to purchase tickets quickly to avoid disappointment. We’ll have lots of new attractions at FOTU 2022… promising a day car enthusiasts won’t want to miss.”
Best get booking then! And then you’ll need a suitable car to arrive in, of course, for which the PH classifieds can help. How about a Toyota Carina E? This one has had just one owner since 1997. Or for the same money, there’s a 1983 Honda Accord, and there won’t be many of those even at FOTU. Those with more premium tastes might fancy a low mileage Audi 80, or for something sportier, how about a Fiesta-based Quantum kit car? Finally, perhaps the most unexceptional car currently on PH, and therefore perfect for the festival, a 1985 Vauxhall Astra 1.2 – with five doors, four speeds and one owner from new. It’s yours for £2,995; might even be worth a concours entry…
