Find Of The Day: Selling a Wagon for Dental School

We are days away from the reveal of the all-new 2020 Passat, so why not feature some of VW’s midsize sedan this week? While scouring the internet we came across many fine examples, like this 1977 Dasher wagon (the Dasher eventually became the Passat), this 1992 Passat GLX VR6/manual wagon, this low-mileage 2003 Passat W8 wagon, or even this 2018 Passat GT VR6. All great cars indeed, but this week’s Find Of The Day is an incredible 1997 GLX wagon with a ton of upgrades for a low price.

Where to begin on this car? VWVortex member B4VR6Passat has put a ton of time, effort, and money into this build. The classified ad in our forums contains a laundry list of the work done on the car. We often find cars for sale that we’d love to feature here, but if there’s only a couple of photos or too little info, we have to pass them up. Not this time.

Let’s start with the completely updated VR6 engine. It has new timing chain/tensioner/guides, water pump, alternator, spark plugs/wires, and much more. Engine modifications include upgraded cams, Eurowise intake and header, BFI chip tune, custom exhaust with a Techtonics tuning high-flow cat and Borla muffler, and more. This wagon originally was an automatic; a 5-speed manual swap allows you to get all the power out of the tuned engine. This wagon will haul.

The car rides on ST coilovers and poly bushings. Brakes are mostly stock, with new-ish rotors and pads along with tierods and axles. And it comes with two sets of wheels: OEM “Avus” 15″ wheels, and some very Euro-looking ESW 16″ wheels.

Outside, this GLX wagon is mostly stock. There’s Euro headlight lenses, mildly tinted turn signals/fog-lights, and what look to be Euro tails. It has tinted windows, and B4VR6Passat updated the somewhat fragile exterior door handles.

Inside there’s a slick BBS steering wheel, a BBS shift knob, and an aftermarket stereo. Some mild chrome accents pepper the cabin.

But here’s the best part: the price. For only $3800 (or best offer), you can own this silver bullet. As thorough as the ad is, the exact location is not listed. A performance shop in Charlotte, NC is mentioned, so it could be near there. Take a look at the ad for more information, or contact B4VR6Passat for more information.
