Home office need sprucing up? The Girardo & Co. Archive has just got hold of three million images…

Attending live motorsport has been impossible for ages now, so it's only inevitable that we've all been reminiscing about the good old days of watching races in person – the sights, smells and sounds that make motorsport so great. Furthermore, with so many of us now confined to spare bedrooms for our work, that love of racing may well have resulted in one or two artwork purchases for the home office. Four-wheeled artwork, of course.

Those who need to bolster that collection will therefore be pleased to learn that Girardo and Co. is launching its own archive. Called, unsurprisingly enough, the Girardo & Co. Archive, it follows the purchase of Italian motorsport archive Photo4. As you can see from the selection of images here, it features some spectacular automotive photography; it's claimed there are three million pics in total, with many previously unseen and covering five decades of motorsport. That's all kinds of motorsport, too, from rallying to F1 and sportscars to oval racing.

Ostensibly the Girardo archive will serve for research purposes, to help buyers verify the authenticity of a race car or a journalist illustrate a story, but high resolution copies can be purchased from the website. A search function means you don't have to trawl through all three million (unless you'd really like to) and can be added to a personal lightbox instead of purchasing if preferred. Because we all have space on the wall somewhere for a 555 Impreza on two wheels, right?

Girardo and Co. founder Max Girardo said of the Photo4 acquisition: "The Girardo & Co. Archive not only serves as a vital research tool for us and many others, from owners to historians, but it also offers the ability to dive straight back into the halcyon days of Formula 1, sports cars and rallying." If the moment to dive straight back in is now, then the archive website is live at girardoarchive.com. After all, it is almost pay day…
