ISI certification to be mandatory for car windscreens, window

According to a media report, ISI marks will be made compulsory for car windscreens and windows. The Bureau of Indian Standards is said to be in the process of mandating the use of the ISI mark on windscreens and windows of cars manufactured or assembled in India.

The new rule is expected to curb the entry of low-quality glass into the country, especially in the aftersales and service market. While it would increase the overall safety standards, the additional certification could also increase the cost for car manufacturers.

The new regulation could come into effect from April 1, 2021. It is not likely to apply to cars imported as completely built units (CBUs).
