Kia EV concept debuts in Geneva

Kia Motors revealed its new electric concept car, called Imagine by Kia, in Geneva, promising a car that will “get your pulse racing.” Think of the car as Kia showing how it wants to continue down the EV path beyond, say, the Soul EV.

“Automotive design is about capturing the heart and making it beat that bit faster for that bit longer,” says Gregory Guillaume, Kia Motors Europe vice president of design. “We believe that there’s absolutely no reason why that should change simply because the car is electric.”

Guillaume says the Imagine by Kia’s design has elements of both a crossover and a “muscular” sedan and that it is intentionally designed to not “sit within the industry’s predefined vehicle categories.” Kia’s tiger nose is gone — in its place is what Kia calls a “tiger mask” that wraps around the front headlights.

The interior is unlike any we’ve seen, with 21 glass shards lining the dash. They are actually 21 individual ultra-high-resolution screens arranged in a way that they can be viewed as one single continuous image, showing there are new ways to do infotainment.

Kia didn’t give any powertrain details other than to say it is mounted low in the chassis and is capable of induction charging.
