Learn How to Pronounce Porsche Taycan in New Video

You don’t want to be that person at the next Cars and Coffee meet up, where mispronouncing car names can be nearly as egregious a faux pas as oversteering your Mustang into, well, anything. (At least you probably won’t end up on YouTube, though.)

To that end, do you know how to pronounce the name of the all-electric 2020 Porsche Taycan, formerly known as the Mission E, yet? It’s not “tay-con,” “taken” (sorry, Liam Neeson), or “toucan.” It’s “tie-con,” which we knew, but now you can hear it straight from the horse’s mouth in the Porsche-produced video embedded below. Speaking of horses, we’ve been told that the word Taycan translates roughly to “lively young horse” in some unspecified Eurasian language, and that it references the rearing steed seen in the Porsche crest.

The first purely electric Porsche will feature two motors that deliver a total system output of more than 600 hp. Porsche claims a 0-60 mph time “under 3.5 seconds,” a range of more than 300 miles on a single charge, and the possibility of recouping 60 miles of range in four minutes using an 800-volt fast charger.

The Taycan—remember, it rhymes with “icon”—will launch in mid-2019 and Porsche has already received nearly 3,000 deposits. A Cross Turismo variant is planned, and a Targa version is also rumored to be in the works.
