Looks like the 2020 GT500 will arrive at the Detroit auto show

Ford looked to make a little news during the Los Angeles Auto Show…but it's about the Detroit auto show. On its Ford Performance Facebook page it showed off the upper half of a new, supercharged, 700-plus-hp V8. All the caption says is "we have 500 reasons why you should love the new GT500. Here's the first one."

On the engine cover the date "1/14/19" is stamped, which coincides with this year's NAIAS press days, so we'll definitely see it there. At the  bottom of the picture, which was cropped off, it also says "available fall 2019," so we know when it goes on sale.

We're guessing it will get a dual-clutch transmission. We're also guessing it will be a new engine, not an off-the-shelf Coyote V8 or the GT350's 5.2-liter flat-plane crank V8. We're not sure if it will get the 2018 Mustang styling change, or like the GT350, keep the 2017 cues.

That's it for now. We'll find out more in January.
