Maharashtra: RTO makes vehicle registration process paperless

The new rules will save a lot of time as physical visits to the RTO will not be required.

Thanks to the initiative of the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) Maharashtra, the State Transport Department has made the vehicle registration process completely paperless.

FADA had been involved in discussions with the State Transport Department to implement new rules that would reduce the risk of infection during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

On June 8, 2021, Dr. Avinash Dhakane, State Transport Commissioner, issued an order that enables online submission of vehicle registration documents and allows e-signatures.

Also, physical verification for the first registration of new fully built motorcycles and cars will not be necessary and vehicle ordinary numbers will be auto-generated at the dealerships.

According to FADA, the new rules will save a lot of time as physical visits to the RTO will not be required. It is also expected to promote ‘ease of doing business’ in the state.
