McLaren Previews Its New Artura High Performance Hybrid Supercar

McLaren will be making its High Performance Hybrid (HPH) debut with the new Artura, and now the British supercar maker is offering a preview of what’s to come.

Based on both the McLaren P1 back in 2012 and the more recent Speedtail Hyper-GT, the new Artura’s HPH system combines a lightweight twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine with a motor to churn out similar performance as the automaker’s V8 models, with the added benefit of greener technology and improved torque response at low rev speeds to enable “scintillating acceleration.” When extreme performance isn’t’ required, the Artura can also run on electric power alone to further reduce emissions.

“Every element of the Artura is all-new – from the platform architecture and every part of the High Performance Hybrid powertrain to the exterior body, interior and cutting-edge driver interface – but it draws on decades of McLaren experience in pioneering super-lightweight race and road car technologies to bring all of our expertise in electrification to the supercar class,”  says McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt.

There’s currently no information on pricing or when exactly the new hybrid will arrive, so supercar fans should definitely stay tuned for more updates to come.

Elsewhere in the automotive world, BMW Motorrad has packed 165 horsepower into its 2021 S 1000 R.
