Morgan Plus 4 70th Anniversary Edition marks end of steel chassis Plus 4

All 20 examples of 180bhp, £60,000-plus special have been reserved

Morgan is celebrating 70 years of the Plus 4 with a run of 20 70th Anniversary Edition models, as the company prepares to end production of sports cars using its traditional steel chassis by the end of the year.

The Plus 4 has been one of Morgan’s best selling and most iconic models since it went on sale in 1950, and the car has used Morgan’s steel chassis since it was released.

Each 70th Anniversary Edition will come with an extensive list of exclusive additions including a gold-painted chassis, platinum metallic paint, satin dark grey wire wheels, a motorsport-inspired front valance and an exterior black pack that includes the A-pillars, sidescreens, stone guards and exhaust.

The tweaks continue in the interior as each car receives a numbered plaque and embroidered seats alongside a Ravenwood veneer dashboard, dark grey box weave carpets and a Mota-Lita steering wheel.

Other additions to the car include heated performance seats, footwell lighting and a steering cowl and door handles wrapped in the finest grade of leather which Morgan sourced specifically for this car.

Morgan has also given the anniversary model over to their inhouse specialists Aero Racing, who have given the Plus 4 a new engine map and sports exhaust which increases power to 180bhp, up from 154bhp in the standard car. It means the special model has a 0-62mph time of under seven seconds.

Priced at £60,995 in the UK each of the 70th Anniversary Edition cars comes with a photographic build record of the car. All 20 examples have already been reserved.
