New 2019 Kia XCeed SUV revealed in official image

The new Kia XCeed is the latest member of the growing Ceed family, sitting between the Stonic and Sportage in the brand’s SUV range

Kia has released an official image of its new XCeed SUV. The profile shot gives us our best look yet at Kia’s latest model, which goes up against rivals such as the Volkswagen T-Roc and MINI Countryman.

Only one image has been released so far but it gives us a clear view as to how the XCeed is shaping up. The latest addition will sit between Kia’s Stonic and Sportage SUV models. The XCeed features a slightly different window line to what’s found on current Kia SUVs along with a more rounded C-pillar than the Stonic and Sportage.

The profile shot shows familiar Ceed design DNA such as headlights from the Sportswagon, along with alloys from the hatchback. It’s also clear that the XCeed will have a slightly lower ride height than its rivals, designed to give it a sportier stance that is emphasised by a small roof-mounted spoiler.

No technical information has been issued but we expect the XCeed crossover to be officially revealed in the coming months before a public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show later in the year. It’s expected to be the final member of the Ceed family, following the release of the more practical Ceed Sportswagon and a stylish ProCeed shooting brake.

As Auto Express exclusively revealed at the Geneva Motor Show, the XCeed, along with the Ceed Sportswagon, will be offered with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. This should join the range in 2020.

When quizzed about the idea of a Ceed SUV earlier this year at the reveal of the firm’s latest family hatchback, Artur Martins, Kia’s vice president of marketing, told Auto Express: “This is something we are putting on the table. There will be no three-door with this car so that gives us the chance to have another body type of the [Ceed] car”.

Martins identified the Ceed’s market (the C-segment) as an area for potential growth for Kia. He said: “We over-perform in D-segment and SUVs – we have around 7 per cent market share. We have a chance to increase volume, but we have to change the recipe, we have to come with a different proposition, something more relevant”.
