New F-150 Gets More Power

A few weeks ago Ford showed the 2021 F-150, including the new 3.5-liter PowerBoost V6 hybrid. At the time we said “we still don’t know the specs of the MHT (modular hybrid technology) powertrain. Now we do. Ford announced the optional hybrid powertrain generates 430 hp and 570 pound-feet of torque. That’s more than the truck’s other optional engines and the torque figure would be the highest in F-150 history.

Ford said the new truck can tow up to 14,000 pounds, 800 more than the 2020 model, with a 3,325-lb maximum payload. Ford claims both figures top the light-duty big pickup segment and also says the hybrid can tow up to 12,700 pounds and haul up to 2,120 pounds.

Ford said the other powertrains produce more power as well. The 5.0-liter V8 generates 400 hp and 410 lb-ft, up 5 hp and 10 lb ft., while the 3.5-liter V6 produces 400 hp and 500 lb-ft, up 25 hp and 30 lb-ft. The 3.0-liter diesel V6, 2.7-liter V6 and 3.3-liter V6 stay the same.

The new truck hits showrooms in November.
