Porsche Auctioning off the Very Last 991 Chassis 911 to Benefit Virus Response

Porsche is selling the last 991 chassis 911 at RM Sotheby’s to benefit the United Way and its Worldwide COVID-19 Community Response and Recovery Fund.

The online auction begins at 11 a.m. ET Wednesday, April 15, and ends Wednesday, April 22, at 1 p.m. ET.

The chassis, a Porsche 911 Speedster, is the very last 991-generation 911 to roll off the assembly line at the Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen factory in December 2019 and is one of the 1,948 limited-edition models built. It comes with a letter of authenticity confirming its status as the last off the line.

Porsche does concede that other, already-built Porsche Speedsters are at Porsche Exclusive in Zuffenhausen getting finishing touches, so this Speedster is not necessarily the last Speedster delivered.

In addition to the car, the auction package includes a 911 Speedster Heritage Design Chronograph watch with a wristband made from the same cognac leather in the 911 Speedster and a winding rotor that looks like the Speedster’s wheels. The watch will include the chassis number of the car itself. The auction winner will also receive a book showcasing the car’s assembly, with photographs and a sketch by the Speedster design team. Klaus Zellmer, CEO of Porsche Cars North America, will host a handover to the winner.

The winning bidder will be invited to take a tour of Porsche’s Weissach development headquarters and meet with Frank-Steffen Walliser and Andreas Preuninger, the heads of the 911 and GT model lines, respectively. Though GT is not in the name, the 911 Speedster is, effectively, a Porsche 911 GT3 Touring cabriolet. It was Preuninger’s decision to give the Speedster Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires.

When the auction winner takes ownership, this particular Speedster will be delivered with a silver metallic paint job and just 20 delivery miles on its 502-hp, 4.0-liter flat-six. And we can confirm the Speedster is truly a wonderful car.

There are many ways to spend egregious amounts of money on luxury items; in this case, at least most of that money (excluding taxes and fees) goes to a good cause. If you’re a person of means, it’s something to consider.
