R.I.P. Mercedes-Benz CLS! Production to end in August 2023

The Mercedes-Benz CLS underwent a mild refresh in 2022

According to a media report, Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that it will stop production of the CLS on August 31, 2023, marking an end to the coupe-sedan. The German car brand also confirmed that the 2023 model year will be its last iteration, with no plans to replace the CLS sedan.

The Mercedes-Benz CLS underwent a mild refresh in 2022 but also saw the carmaker trim the variants on offer. The rear-wheel-drive CLS450 and the AMG-tuned CLS53 were discontinued last year, leaving just the CLS450 4MATIC version.

The last surviving variant was powered by a 3.0-litre inline-6 cylinder engine paired with a 48V hybrid setup, producing 362 BHP and 500 Nm. This allowed the CLS to sprint from 0 – 98 km/h (0-60 mph) in 4.6 seconds.

The discontinuation of the CLS marks the brand’s clear push towards its EQ vehicles and the more expensive AMG models.
