Shillong Traffic Police to fine motorist for wrong use of hazard lights
The Traffic Police in Shillong have announced that motorists misusing hazard lights will soon face a penalty.
As per Section 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act, the incorrect use of hazard lights is a punishable act and can attract fines of up to Rs 300. The move comes after local residents have been using hazards to indicate going straight at a junction.
Hazard lights are used to denote the fact that the vehicle could be a hazard on the road to other motorists. It can also denote a broken down vehicle or an accident.
The Police will fine first time offenders Rs. 100 and repeat offenders Rs. 300.
