'Personal reasons' cited for just two years in the top job

Jaguar Land Rover CEO Thierry Bolloré will leave his post as Chief Executive Officer of Jaguar Land Rover at the end of 2022. The news has been confirmed by Tata Motors. Bolloré, who had previously held senior positions at Renault, was appointed CEO at Gaydon in September 2020. His departure will take effect from December 31st, 2022, and Adrian Mardell – current CFO – will take the reins as interim CEO. Bolloré cited ‘personal reasons’ for his departure.

The Frenchman leaves behind something of a muddle, the ‘Reimagine’ strategy of Bolloré’s that aimed to reinvent Jaguar as an EV-only brand from 2025 currently just 18 months old. And with precious little progress made thus far, it seems. The existing range that would benefit from fresh investment has been left as the great EV reinvention has taken precedence. Jaguar will go into 2023, just two years from the original Reimagine timeframe for an all-electric range, with an interim boss, the then-five-year-old I-Pace as its sole EV, and one more year of F-Types. There seems an awful lot to do, basically, especially with the saloons and F-Pace SUV to consider as well.

Bolloré said he was immensely proud of what “we have achieved together at Jaguar Land Rover over the last two years”, adding that the transformation towards a sustainable, profitable future as a modern luxury business was underway at great pace. Which feels quite easy to say when you’re leaving. Whatever the case, the next two years for Jaguar just got even more critical. Expect more news on a full time CEO to take Mandrell’s position in the new year – they’ve quite some task ahead.
