This Classic Ford Bronco Pairs an Electric Motor to a Manual Transmission

Who isn’t building classic Broncos these days? But here’s a new twist: This one’s fully electric, and it’s built by design, technology, and engineering firm Zero Labs Automotive.

The heavily overhauled rig starts with a classic 1966-1977 Ford Bronco chassis and is completely redone from there. We think it looks very cool, although we’re not yet sure about the solid grille that’s been stamped to mimic the original’s slats. Zero Labs uses gobs of carbon fiber to re-create the body, and the truck is said to feature more than 1,000 new parts throughout. The non-electrical running gear includes an Atlas 2 two-speed transfer case, Currie front and rear differentials, adjustable Fox coil-over shocks, and six-piston Brembo front brake calipers.

The cabin has a minimalist, future-retro vibe and is decked out in walnut or bamboo on the dash, door panels, and center console, while a central digital screen is mounted just forward of the shifter for the five-speed manual transmission. Yes, you read that right: It packs a manual. Power is stored in a 70-kWh lithium-ion battery pack that offers a claimed 190 miles of range and can be recharged using a Level 2 charger. The BorgWarner electric motor provides 369 horsepower, which should be more than enough to have some fun.

Pricing hadn’t been announced yet, but if you like what you see get in touch with Zero Labs now to place a reservation: Only 150 of the first-edition EV Broncos are in the works.
