2020 has been quite the year with the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic tearing through society, yet despite this many people around the world — especially our key workers — helped bring us all back together. In honor of our key workers, Toyota‘s new GR Yaris has been given an apt livery designed by a 16-year-old Welsh student named Alice Goodliffe from the Ysgol Uwchradd comprehensive in Plasmawr, Cardiff.
Created as an entry into Toyota’s “Design a Rally Car Livery,” the art finds itself plastered on one of the WRC-inspired GR Yaris hot hatches. It features a fask mask over the front bumper and bonnet, a rainbow pattern on the roof and rear bumper, daffodils on the rear-quarter (which represents Wales’ national flower and acts a sign for new beginnings and joy), as well as a group of people on the side.
The door serves as the canvas for Goodliffe’s depiction of a police officer, nurse, teacher, construction worker, and a shop assistant, who each acted as key workers during the global pandemic. This unique art car is set to be revealed by Toyota’s championship leader Elfyn Evans at the WRC title decider in Italy later this week.
Speaking on her win, Goodliffe said, “I am over the moon to have won this competition, it was lovely to receive some positive news during such difficult times… I wanted my design to reflect all the hard work that our key workers have done during the pandemic and to show a token of appreciation for them. As a family we are keen supporters of Wales Rally GB and are so disappointed that it was unable to take place this year.”
