Brendon Hartley penalised for Esteban Ocon collision

Brendon Hartley was hit with a five-second time penalty and two penalty points on his license after turning in on Esteban Ocon during the Mexican Grand Prix.

Racing at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez on Sunday afternoon, Ocon found himself battling the Toro Rosso team-mates for position.

That ended in tears for the Force India when he was given a healthy whack by Hartley and would later retire from the race.

The stewards ruled that Hartley was “wholly to blame for the collision” as he failed to “leave sufficient room” for Ocon.

He was hit with a five-second time penalty and is halfway to a race ban as he now has six penalty points on his license.

Meanwhile Ocon was cleared of any wrongdoing in his tussle with the other Toro Rosso of Pierre Gasly.

Although the Frenchman felt that his compatriot had pushed off him off the track, the stewards ruled that “car 10 locked up his left front brake and understeered off the track.”
