British Grand Prix remains free-to-air in UK

Channel 4 have agreed a new ‘multi-year’ deal with Sky Sports to keep the British Grand Prix on free-to-air television.

Channel 4 had regular free-to-air races until Sky’s exclusivity deal kicked in ahead of the 2019 season and that will remain in place until at least 2024.

As a result, Channel 4 were left with just full live coverage for British Grand Prix at Silverstone this season. The same schedule has been agreed for at least the next two years with Channel 4 retaining highlights of the other 21 races on the 2020 calendar.

Alex Mahon, the Channel 4 CEO, said: “Channel 4 has established itself as the go-to channel for free to air television coverage of Formula 1 and we’re thrilled that motorsport fans will be able to continue to enjoy the excitement of F1 through our highlights of all the races and live coverage of the British Grand Prix.”

As part of the new agreement, Sky Sports and Channel 4 will also share advertising technology and Sky customers will have further access to more Channel 4 programming.
