Carlos Sainz has said he is not 100 per cent certain as to whether Ferrari’s new engine will be ready in time for the Turkish Grand Prix.
The Scuderia’s new power unit is widely reported to be providing the SF21 with an extra 10 to 15hp power boost, but there is uncertainty as to when Ferrari will be in a position to unleash their new beast.
The races at Monza and Sochi have come too soon to introduce the new engine, so the Turkish Grand Prix on October 8-10 has been earmarked as the first realistic venue.
However, speaking at a recent press conference organised by his sponsors Estrella Galicia 0,0, Sainz has suggested ever so slightly that the wait for the new power unit may just go on that little bit longer.
“I am not sure if it will arrive in Turkey,” Sainz said, as quoted by Soy Motor.
“You will have news in the coming weeks, we will communicate it in due time.”

With a potential eight races left in his impressive first season with Ferrari – a campaign which has included two podium finishes – Sainz has also set out his wishes as we approach the final stages of the 2020 schedule.
He said: “I would like there to be one more surprise in terms of fighting for a podium on merit as we did in Monaco or Silverstone, where the car was ready for a podium.
“Why not try to have a surprise in these last eight races.”
Sainz also reflected on his season as a whole and the decision to join Ferrari from McLaren, with his former team also continuing to show real signs of progress in closing the gap to the likes of Mercedes and Red Bull.
“I am having the best year of my sporting career,” Sainz stated.
“Time will tell if I have been wrong or not, but I am very confident in the Ferrari project in the long term, not in winning at Monza, but in winning the next few years and we are working super hard to do it.”
