Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso on McLaren's Indy radar

Fernando Alonso’s Indianapolis 500 tilt is unlikely to be his only IndyCar drive with McLaren with Zak Brown revealing he’s keen on doing more races.

He could also team up with his former F1 team-mate Jenson Button for a few of those.

This season McLaren is entering its first full season in the IndyCar series with Alonso taking the team’s third entry for the Indianapolis 500.

That race was scheduled for May, however, motor racing’s hiatus means it will likely only take place in July, or even later.

The Spaniard needs the victory to write his name in the history books as only the second driver to win the Triple Crown: Indianapolis 500, Monaco F1 GP and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Indy, though, may not be Alonso’s only race with the double World Champion and his former McLaren team-mate, Button, both keen on trying their hand at other races.

McLaren is also eyeing Nascar champ Jimmie Johnson for a few events.

Brown, though, fears Indy’s reduced testing could scupper those plans.

“I’ve spoken with all three of them,” the McLaren boss told Motorsport.com. “All three of them really enjoy IndyCar racing. All three want to race.

“All three are extremely competitive. I think IndyCar now has just come out with a testing restriction, so unfortunately that might make this year more difficult, because I don’t think any of those would want to just jump into a car, you know, cold in Friday practice.

“I think they’re all too professional and know the sport is too competitive to think that they can just hop in without an appropriate amount of testing.

“But I would say all three of those drivers… I wouldn’t be surprised to see one or all three in an IndyCar at some point, and I think that’d be very exciting.”
