Jos: 'Time for Red Bull to deliver title-winning car' | F1 News by PlanetF1

Not for the first time, Jos Verstappen has called on Red Bull to deliver a World Championship-winning car for his son, Max.

Ever since Max Verstappen made the jump up to the Red Bull senior team in 2016, the dream has been to make him the youngest-ever Formula 1 World Champion, eclipsing the record currently held by Sebastian Vettel who won his first title with Red Bull aged 23 years, 134 days.

But, with Verstappen recently turning 23 on September 30 and currently 77 points behind World Championship leader Lewis Hamilton, that dream is almost over.

With recent talk of Verstappen’s exit clauses resurfacing lately and the decision made by Red Bull’s engine partners, Honda, to leave the sport after 2021, many are pondering what the future holds for the Dutchman in his continued quest for World Championship.

His father, Jos, has suggested that 2021 could well the crucial year that decides his son’s future.

“We are waiting patiently to see what happens,” Jos Verstappen told De Telegraaf.

“We don’t have much to say to the outside world.

“It is time for Red Bull to put down a car that will allow you to become a champion.

“If Max has a competitive car next year they won’t have to worry about anything. That’s the goal: become world champion.”

As for what the Honda departure means for Max, he said in the build-up to the Eifel Grand Prix that the objectives, for the time being, remain the same.

“It is of course a shame that Honda are leaving Formula 1, especially as we have such a good relationship and we really see the dedication of the people involved in the project which has always been very important for me,” Verstappen said.

“In terms of what that means at the moment and what we are focused on then nothing has changed.

“We still have the rest of this season and next season to focus on together and we are still trying to be on the podium every single race, that’s a good target for us.

“Making sure that we maximise all the results that we can all the time.”
