McLaren's self-isolated personnel back home

All the McLaren team members who were self-isolation in Melbourne are safely back home.

McLaren made the announcement on Thursday, bringing to an end a trying two weeks for the Woking team.

“We are pleased to confirm that as of yesterday evening, all team personnel who were in self-isolation in Melbourne, as well as management who had stayed with them, have now safely returned home,” reported the team.

“Thanks once again on behalf of the team for all the support and well wishes.”

14 of McLaren’s staff members were placed into self-isolation after arriving in Melbourne where one team member tested positive for the Coronavirus.

Following that positive test, McLaren withdrew from the grand prix, sparking a debate over whether the race should continue or not.

10 hours later, after two votes in which the second saw some teams including Mercedes change their vote, Formula 1 announced that the Australian Grand Prix would not go ahead.

The calendar, as it stands, is set to begin in Montreal with the Canadian Grand Prix in mid-June.

Organisers for that race, though, say they will decide within the next “two to three weeks” whether they will continue as planned or postpone the event.

Meanwhile McLaren joined many in the UK and around the world sending off a round of applause for all those working on the frontline to save lives in the midst of the health crisis.
