When it comes to IndyCar, why not Jack Roush?

Jack Roush has 137 race wins and eight titles have come in NASCAR’s top touring divisions.

NASCAR team owner and Hall of Fame member Jack Roush has not only done a great deal of racing himself, but he’s also fielded some of the most successful teams in NASCAR.

All his 137 race wins and eight titles have come in NASCAR’s top touring divisions.

However, one thing Jack Roush has never done either personally or professionally is race anything open wheel.

A couple of his rival team owners on the other hand have found success in the open wheel world. Roger Penske’s IndyCar operation has 209 wins and 16 Indy titles, and Chip Ganassi Racing has 106 wins and 12 Indy titles.

So why not Jack?

“Well I believe first and foremost that race cars have doors,” Roush quipped Friday at Charlotte Motor Speedway site of this weekend’s NASCAR events.

“If you don’t have the prospect of tying the manufacturer, to use an old cliché to win on Sunday and sell on Monday, you’ve really missed an opportunity to market with what you are doing with the race car — that’s hard to overcome,” he added.

Don’t expect the team owner to change his mind in the future.

“I’ve never felt diminished nor have I missed anything by not racing Indy cars, open wheel cars,” he said. “I drag-raced full-body cars, I raced full-bodied cars and I look forward to racing my stock cars for a long time to come.”
