DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 3, 2002)– The NASCAR Winston West Series event at Stockton (Calif.) 99 Speedway on Aug. 17 will be televised to a national audience on the SPEED Channel cable network, NASCAR and the network have announced.

The race– known as the Stockton Speedway Dodge Dealers Country, NAPA Auto Parts 200 presented by ProLong and JaniKing– will be shown on a tape-delay basis and is slated to air on Sept. 3 at 2 p.m. ET.

With the addition of this event to the SPEED Channel lineup, seven of the 10 races on the NASCAR Winston West Series schedule for 2002 are being televised on the cable network.

Televised events in the first half of the season included the Pontiac Widetrack Grand Prix 200 at California Speedway, the Winter Heat presented by Bosch at Phoenix International Raceway and The Orleans 222 at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

In addition to the Stockton event, other series races to be televised in the second half of the season include the JaniKing 200 at Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway; the Young Automotive Group 250 at Rocky Mountain Raceways in West Valley City, Utah; and the season finale, The Orleans 150 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The Stockton event, meanwhile, marks the first time in nearly two decades for the West’s oldest stock car racing circuit to visit the historic track. The speedway, which underwent a recent renovation that included the addition of new Musco lighting and new and expanded paving in the pit area, hosted 13 series races between 1966 and 1983. The race will also mark the first time since 1985 for the series to compete on a ¼-mile oval.

SPEED Channel, which is currently available in 45 million homes in the United States, is the first and only 24-hour cable network devoted exclusively to motorsports and the human fascination for speed. SPEED Channel is home to much of the world’s marquee racing events including NASCAR, CART, F1, Classic Cars, World Rally, car shows and other motorsports activities from around the globe.
