'Sebastian Vettel made more mistakes than Ferrari did'

Felipe Massa believes Sebastian Vettel is more to blame than Ferrari this season after missing out on the World Drivers’ Championship.

Vettel’s dream of winning a first title with Ferrari remains on hold as Lewis Hamilton wrapped up his fifth World Championship at the Mexican Grand Prix.

The 2018 campaign has been viewed as a huge missed opportunity for Ferrari, who have produced a car that was more than capable of beating the Mercedes W09 on a regular basis.

But, a combination of mistakes from both driver and team have contributed to the title pendulum swinging firmly in Mercedes’ favour.

Ex-Ferrari driver, Massa, though, thinks that Vettel is more at fault than the Scuderia for allowing that to happen.

“Vettel and Ferrari missed a chance this year, but I think Sebastian has more guilt than the team,” Massa told Globo’s Bem Amigos programme.

“Germany was especially painful, where Vettel could have won but he lost the full 25 points.

“But there were also mistakes in qualifying, the wrong strategies, unnecessary contact with Bottas in France.

“I think Vettel made more mistakes than Ferrari did.”

Massa then went on to already describe Lewis Hamilton as an “obvious favourite” for the title in 2019.

“He is already the one with the most poles in history and close to the record for wins,” he added.

“He is 33 years old and seems to be an obvious favourite in the fight for the title next season.

“He has a chance to beat all of the records.”
