Sebastian Vettel's Ferrari future 'all in his hands now'

Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto says Sebastian Vettel’s future beyond 2020 is now all in the four-time World Champion’s hands.

2020 was a difficult year for Vettel as he struggled to see off the challenge of his new and fast team-mate Charles Leclerc.

The Monegasque driver would record more wins, poles and points than Vettel, and with the German’s contract at Ferrari coming to an end this year, it has sparked rumours of a move away.

But Binotto has talked up Vettel, saying he is in the correct mental and physical state at this pivotal point in his career, while the expects the SF1000 to suit his driving style better than the SF90 did.

So with that in mind, Vettel’s Ferrari future is now “all in his hands”.

“Vettel is fit and focused at a key moment in his career, we started discussing a contract and it is important to understand what to decide in a short time,” Binotto told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“It is important for him and for us to clarify quickly. It’s all in his hands now.

“He knows Leclerc, who he was initially surprised about, he knows what he needs and indeed he has prepared well.

“I think the new car is more suited to his driving style. One of the great abilities of the great drivers is to get the most out of the car they have available to them.”
