Setback for Alex Albon after heavy FP2 crash | F1 News by PlanetF1

Alex Albon’s Friday ended in disaster after a big crash at the final corner during FP2 ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix.

The Thai driver went wide at the final corner of the Bahrain International Circuit, losing the rear of his RB16 as he tried to accelerate on the dust to take the main straight.

From there it was straight to the scene of the accident as Albon crashed into the tyre barriers, destroying the rear end of his Red Bull.

The medical car was deployed to collect Albon who fortunately walked away from the incident seemingly without any injury.

On Thursday Albon said the Bahrain Grand Prix was the start of three opportunities to prove himself to Red Bull before the season ends as he looks to see off the threat of Sergio Perez and secure a spot at Red Bull for 2021.

So this incident has done him little good in that quest.

“At the end of the day, there are still three races to show what I’ve got,” he told reporters in Bahrain.

“I want to have a good few races ahead of me. The focus is these three races, there’s not really any other thought to it. Most people have a plan B, but my plan is plan A, that’s staying in the team.

“I’m focused on that, that’s my goal. As I said, I’m focusing on these races.”
