Last month we took a deep dive into “Metro,” an R32-generation Nissan Skyline GT-R heavily modified for drag racing by Australia-based Maatouks Racing. Earlier this year, the car set a record for Skylines, posting up a 6.57-second quarter-mile while it pulled a wheelie. Now, it holds the record for all-wheel-drive cars worldwide, according to Dragnews.com.
Maatouks Racing managed to run an even quicker and faster quarter-mile during a recent test at Sydney Dragway: 6.472 seconds at 219.92 mph. That’s a tenth quicker than the car’s earlier record run, and a few hundredths better than the previous AWD record-holder, an R35-generation Nissan GT-R built by Extreme Turbo Systems.
Under the record-holding R32 sits a billet RB straight-six engine running on methanol with 3.2 liters of displacement, using things like a dry-sump oiling system, a custom radiator, 12 injectors, and a Precision GenII Pro-Mod turbocharger. A two-speed PowerGlide transmission, attached to a beefed up GT-R transfer case brings power to the wheels. The rear differential has been strengthened as well, but the front differential has been left stock.
Considering the strides Maatouks Racing has made far thus year in terms of performance, we’re betting there’s still time to be found at the strip with this Skyline. We can’t wait to see what else the team has in store.
