Trulli Jr has 'lots of steps' to take before F1 | F1 News by PlanetF1

Enzo Trulli may have upset the odds to the win the 2021 F4 UAE Championship, but Formula 1 remains far away.

Son of Formula 1 race winner Jarno Trulli, Enzo took his first steps into the world of single-seaters by entering the 2021 Formula 4 UAE Championship.

It was meant to be an introduction for the 15-year-old, but nobody expected him to go on and win it. That is what he did though, taking the title by a single point over Dutchman Dilano van’t Hoff.

“Winning this championship really came as a total surprise to us,” Jarno told Racingnews365.

“Not only for me, but also for the team and for Enzo himself. We left for the United Arab Emirates with the aim of giving Enzo as much experience as possible in a Formula car. It was impossible to predict he would suddenly manage to win the UAE Formula 4 Championship.”

Next up for Enzo is the Spanish F4 Championship. But while he has already put himself firmly on the map in the junior categories with his UAE success, the world of Formula 1 remains “a lot of steps” away.

“I have to stay fit because I will also be in the Spanish Formula 4 championship this year. I want to prepare as well as possible for this,” said Enzo.

“The road to Formula 1 is very long and I really have to finish the road step by step. Of course, I am very happy with winning the title in the UAE F4 championship, but I also know I still have a lot of steps to take.”

But as well as Spanish F4, Enzo now has other potential opportunities open to him for 2021.

“Everything happened so fast this winter with Enzo that now there seems to be other options,” said his father Jarno.

“We will have to sit down for that because of course we have to make the right choices. For now at least we have the contract in the Spanish F4 championship in our pocket.

“It was nice to see how people from the sport reacted to Enzo’s achievements, which of course makes me very proud. I am very happy with how everything has gone and I look forward to seeing how he will do in the coming years. We will take a good look at everything.”

Asked for his racing idol on the current grid, Enzo selected one of his dad’s former team-mates.

“I have spoken to and seen Fernando [Alonso] several times in my life. If you ask me who my current idol is on the F1 grid, Fernando is,” Enzo concluded.
