Mercedes-Benz electrified concept, production EQV Frankfurt-bound; PHEVs, Merc-AMG GLB 35 to launch

Mercedes-Benz will be going to the forthcoming Frankfurt Motor Show with a string of new plug-in hybrid models, among which will be a brand new concept model. This new concept will be part of the German automaker’s EQ sub-brand, which means it will feature an electrified powertrain.

The electrified models expected to be unveiled at Frankfurt are from the marque’s compact model range, and will include the A 250 e, B 250 e, CLA 250 e and the GLB 250 e. As the model designations suggest, these models should share a common electrified powertrain.

In the case of the A 250 e, this will be a 1.3 litre turbo petrol from the A 200 with 163 hp and 200 Nm of torque, paired to a gearbox-mounted motor with 101 hp and 200 Nm. This gearbox is expected to be the eight-speed 8G-DCT that has been confirmed for the compact range, including the GLB.

In addition, this year’s edition of the Frankfurt Motor Show will also feature the fully electric EQV. At the other end of the electrification spectrum, the company says that Mercedes-AMG “will present a variant of the compact SUV based on the GLB,” which could mean the arrival of the Mercedes-AMG GLB 35.

The performance version of the compact seven-seater SUV can be expected to adopt the powertrain from the A35 4Matic hatchback and A35 4Matic Sedan, which boasts of 306 hp and 400 Nm sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox; the same can be expected from the GLB 35.

A production version of the Mercedes-Benz Concept EQV fully electric MPV is also expected to be on display at the Frankfurt Motor Show. At the smaller end of the scale, smart will also be showing its latest iterations of its electric urban vehicles at the annual exhibition.
