As expected, yesterday was just part one of the new Kia Soul’s teaser campaign, which will culminate in a world debut at the LA Auto Show at the end of this month. We saw the crossover’s C-pillars yesterday, now here’s a glimpse of its front end in an image released by the Hyundai Motor Group.

We see a two-tone exterior – a white body topped by a red roof and matching wing mirror caps. Blacked out A-pillars too, like the outgoing car. Expect a broad range of body-roof colour combos, including monotone, which was hinted at yesterday.

The Soul’s headlamps started off really big in the first generation, before slimming down to normal sized items in the outgoing PS. Further gym work will reduce the eyes of the Soul to a very slim strip, connected by an even thinner “grille”, if u can call it that.

Are those just the LED daytime running lights? Are there big, actual headlamps below? If the answer is yes, the Soul will have quite a unique face for a Kia, as that two-tier layout is more of a Hyundai SUV thing, as seen on the new Santa Fe and compact Kona. However, spyshots suggest that those are indeed the LED headlamps and air intakes reside below. We’ll see.

Also seen here is the upright windscreen, which is part of the Soul’s signature shape. The Korean carmaker says that the Soul, an “undeniable automotive icon”, will be instantly recognisable (evolving an iconic and/or popular design is the right way to go) and will come to market with “awesome versatility for everyone.” Drivetrain choices will include turbocharged petrol units and an electric option.

The latter, the new Soul EV, will be available in select retailers in select markets with limited availability, Kia says. The rest of the Soul range is set to go on sale next year in North America.
