Project CARS 3 Latest Trailer Shows New Porsche 935 in Action

Although it came as a bit of a surprise when announced in June, Project CARS 3 is almost upon us. The latest title in the series lands at the end of August and, unsurprisingly, that means a step up in the marketing campaign.

We’ve already seen one clip from Slightly Mad Studio earlier this month, featuring two new-but-returning bits of content: the updated IR18 package Dallara DW12 IndyCar; and WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Today we’ve got a new video which shows off two assets that are new to the series.

The first is the 2018 Porsche 935. This car is Porsche’s 70th birthday present to itself, in the shape of a modern interpretation of the classic 1978 Le Mans race car. Porsche originally developed the 930 Turbo into the 935 for Group 5 racing, a category that included some pretty madcap machinery like the Zakspeed Capri, Nissan Skyline RS Silhouette Formula, and BMW 3.0 CSL.

However in 1978 it decided it needed an edge for Le Mans and created the 935/78. The long tail — for straight line speed and stability — and enormous rear wing, coupled with the largely white paintwork, earned it the nickname “Moby Dick”. 2018’s version pays tribute to that car, with similar bodywork on a 911 GT2 RS.

The clip places the 935 in a rather unusual location, and it’s one that’ll be new to the Project CARS series. Officially known as “Porsche Liepzig”, the circuit is a road and track testing facility within the grounds of the Porsche factory in the German city of Liepzig — where Porsche built all 1,270 examples of the Carrera GT. The test track features multiple different layouts, for dynamic testing and driver training, and you’ll be able to drive on it in PC3 when it arrives next month.
