2021 Ram Limited Night Edition Comes to 1500 and Heavy Duty Trucks

It’s time to put away that rattle can of black Krylon paint you bought at Home Depot because Ram will offer blacked-out versions of both the half-ton and Heavy Duty flavors of its trucks. And that will do a far better job of making the 1500 look more dramatic.

Say hello to the Limited Night Editions of the 1500 and the 2500/3500 Heavy Duty models that feature black aluminum wheels, grille, exhaust tips, headlight and taillight bezels, power mirrors with black caps, body color bumpers, black grille surround and badging. On the inside, these models will also feature a 19-speaker Harman Kardon premium sound system, tow hooks and a tri-fold tonneau cover, as well as a sport performance hood for the 1500 models.

The Ram 1500 versions of these trucks will wear 20- or 22-inch wheels, while the Heavy Duty variants with single rear wheels will feature just the 20-inch wheels. When it comes to dual-rear-wheel versions of these trucks, they will wear 17-inch black wheels with machined pockets.

The automaker will extend the Limited Night Edition package to the Ram 1500 and Heavy Duty trucks in 4×2 and 4×4 flavors, as well as to the Crew Cab and Mega Cab versions of the bigger trucks. So the larger trucks won’t be left out.

How much will these trucks set buyers back? The Ram 1500 Limited Night Edition will weigh in at $61,740, while the Heavy Duty trucks will start at $64,625. All the trucks offered will feature the options of the Limited trim, so they’ll be well-equipped from the start.

However, note that the Limited Night Edition is a little different from the Limited Black Edition that Ram announced earlier this summer for the Heavy Duty trucks. That package features blacked-out chrome, but mandates black seats for the cabin. The Night Edition, on the other hand, stays neutral on the seat color and offers a choice of monochromatic exterior colors with body-colored bumpers. The two are a little different in choosing which exterior and interior parts you want blacked out, and which ones you want to have a monochromatic look featuring body-color paint. Another difference is that the earlier Heavy Duty Limited Black Edition does not extend to the 1500 trucks. Night Edition does.

That’s right: We’ve reached a point in the blacked-out look era where there is a Black Edition and a Night Edition package from the same manufacturer, and they’re actually not the same thing and require some detailed explanation.

We should also note that a version of the blacked-out look can also be found on some even rarer versions Ram’s “Built to Serve” series of trucks, designed for the five branches of the military, which also feature black grilles and grille surrounds in addition to other muted color details. Those trucks are actually far more limited in number, despite not having “Limited” in their name.

How does Ram explain the demand for different versions of the blacked-out look for trucks?

“Buyers demand a good-looking truck with easy-to-use features,” said Mike Koval Jr., Head of Ram Brand. “They tell us that their Ram trucks are an extension of their personality, and they want to stand out from the crowd. The stylish Limited Night edition offers another way for customers to do just that with the most capable light- and heavy-duty trucks with features and durability that continue to win over more and more buyers.”
