Jeffrey Earnhardt trying to make a name for himself in NASCAR

For many years the name “Earnhardt” was synonymous with NASCAR.  First with the legendary Dale Earnhardt Sr. then with his son Dale Earnhardt Jr., the Earnhardt name was front and center in the sport.

That all changed in 2017 when Junior stepped away from fulltime racing.  Sure, he is still in the booth, but on track the Earnhardt name was no longer at the front of the field every week.

That didn’t mean the Earnhardt name was completely absent.

Jeffrey Earnhardt carries the name, but he’s not interested in using it to make any inroads or grab any attention.  In fact, if he has his way the 29-year old grandson of Dale Earnhardt Sr., will make a name for himself on his own.

“My grandpa is the guy I looked up to, nothing against him,” Earnhardt said Thursday. “I’m out to prove myself…I feel like if anything I’ve got the hard work side of it like my grandpa had, but I’m out to prove who I am. The Earnhardt name’s great and obviously something I have a lot of respect for and appreciation for but at the end of the day I’m out here to prove who I am as a driver. “

Jeffrey has made 75 Cup starts, 66 starts in the Xfinity series and 10 in the truck. But those starts have been in less than stellar equipment.
