Lando Norris extends his McLaren stay through to the end of 2025

Lando Norris will remain with McLaren until at least 2025, the Briton having signed an extension with the Woking team.

McLaren gave Norris his Formula 1 breakthrough in 2019, the teenager scoring 49 points which he built on the following season, bringing his tally up to 97, and bagging his maiden podium at the Austrian GP.

His continued growth was evident last season where he secured sixth place in the Drivers’ Championship with four podiums to his name.

He also grabbed his first pole position, posting the fastest time at a rain-hit qualifying session for the Russian Grand Prix.

And while he lost out on the Italian Grand Prix win, runner-up to his team-mate Daniel Ricciardo, Norris once again showed the world, and McLaren, why pundits believe he could be a future F1 World Champion.

Billed as a ‘sign of mutual confidence’, McLaren have announced that the 22-year-old has committed to a new agreement that will run through to the end of the 2025 season.

Norris is happy to stay on at the team that he considers ‘home’.

“Teams are about people, and I love the people and feel at home at McLaren,” said the 22-year-old. “I have grown up in this team and I’m part of this journey we’re all on.

“Last season was another great step, both in my career and the team’s performance, and I see and feel all the work, investment, and commitment for the team to be in a position to challenge for wins and titles in the future.

“This all gives me huge confidence looking forward, so it was a natural decision to extend our relationship for the next few years.”

Team boss Andreas Seidl said: “The opportunity to extend our relationship with Lando reflects not only our commitment but our belief and confidence in his talent.

“It is also a strong sign of trust and commitment from Lando in us as a team and our journey to world championship contention.

“Lando has shown impressive growth as a Formula 1 driver over the past four years and has been an instrumental part of the team’s momentum and performance trajectory.

“We are still on our journey to fight at the front and Lando is a key element of our plan, so to lock him into place, alongside Daniel and our senior leadership, gives us stability and continuity as we build towards our ultimate shared goal of World Championships.”

McLaren will unveil their 2022 car on Friday at 7pm.
