Vauxhall adds range to Corsa-e and Mokka-e with 2022 update

Vauxhall’s electric models follow Peugeot siblings in gaining battery range boost thanks to mechanical revisions

Vauxhall has joined Stellantis sister brand Peugeot in giving its compact electric models mechanical and spec revisions to boost their range on a single charge.

The Corsa-e and Mokka-e now have an official WLTP-certified range boost of four and six per cent respectively. That means the supermini’s range is up to 222 miles from 209 miles, while the crossover is up to 209 miles from 201 miles previously.

The updates that achieve this include an optimisation of both cars’ heat pump (the system that warms and cools the cabin) to make it more efficient. Vauxhall claims the improvement will be particularly noticeable when driving during winter months.

Furthermore, Vauxhall has introduced a new transmission reducer, which revises the electric motor’s final drive to optimise range at higher speeds. Finally, Corsa-e models with 16in wheels, and Mokka-e models with 17in wheels now use A+ rated low rolling-resistance tyres to further improve efficiency.

There is no mention of updates to either Vauxhall’s humidity sensor, which Peugeot has done on the platform-sharing e-208 and e-2008. This might suggest why neither

Vauxhall gets quite as much range boost as their French counterparts in the update. Both cars continue to use the same 134bhp electric motor and 50kWh battery as before. They can replenish up to 80% charge in 30 minutes via a 100kW DC rapid charger.

Vauxhall has also launched a new Plug & Go offer, which allows customers of all its electric models (including vans) to receive a free home charging unit, eight years battery warranty and roadside assistance, a free six-month subscription to the BP Pulse charging service and three years’ free servicing.
